About “HostnameLookups off” of Apache.

In spite of setting “HostnameLookups off”, my httpd records hostnames in “access.log”. I always wonder about it.

On Feb. 8, I had the following log.
localhost – – [07/Feb/2010:13:32:31 +0900] “GET ~ HTTP/1.1” 200 50288
“~” “Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.10”

I didn’t remember my access as a localhost during this time zone. I think it’s maybe the misidentification of an IP address.
But because of described above, I couldn’t know its IP address. So, this time, I buckle down to examine its reason.

At last, I found out it. Though it might be a well-known fact, Apache makes “HostnameLookups on” of a sentence like “Deny from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx #XX xxxx.com”. Until now, I assumed mistakenly that the “#” and following words were recognized as a comment.
